Fletcher Medler
Fletcher Medler
“Fletcher Medler draws from strong roots in American styles – blues, jazz, gospel – in a way that doesn’t lionize the music of the past, but seeks to propel it forward.” – Boston Globetrotter
Fletcher’s music is a blend of many styles, reflective of influences from both past and present. Drawing on the inspirations of musicians in local scenes from eastern North Carolina to the coast of southern California, he rolls up a blend of jazz, funk and the blues, and packages it into a tight set of tunes. A consummate guitar player, his music has plenty of moments for his eclectic way of navigating the instrument to shine. Collaborating with vocalist Danielle Pratt and enlisting the help of Sean Ball, Cody Burson and Winston Stewart on drums, bass and production respectively, Fletcher shows off the prowess of those around him and gives them the room to play with few limitations. Ever the perfectionist, he steers clear of the temptation of make his guitar work the central focus of his music and puts the song and the excellence of those around him.
With the new album coming out, Fletcher has been gearing up to bring the music out to the region. Tour dates through the winter are set, and many more shows are to be scheduled.
Born in Florence, SC, Fletcher Medler grew up outside Savannah, GA in the marshes of the low country. He would start piano lessons as well as picking up the trumpet and the guitar in his school years, eventually studying trumpet performance at Columbus State for two years. During a stint in the U.S. Army, Fletcher met lifelong friends and collaborators Winston Stewart and Cody Burson. He became a common face in the eastern North Carolina scene, playing at churches and clubs around the region and learning from the many great musicians in the area. He left the Army and moved to San Diego, where the world promptly shut down and he found himself at a loss, and went back to school at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. It was here he would finally hone his craft and begin his career as a creator in earnest.
